On 1 May 1999, three police officers of the Republic of Austria taped Marcus Omofuma’s mouth and nose shut during his deportation on a flight from Vienna to Sofia, tied him to his seat with adhesive tape and tied his chest shut, denying him to breath and thus taking his life.
In memory of Marcus Omofuma and all victims of deportations and racist police violence, we will gather on 1 May 2024 at the Marcus Omofuma Memorial at Platz der Menschenrechte – a place that was fought for by activists from the African community together with artists in solidarity.
Even after 25 years, we demand an end to impunity for the murderers and an end to deportations and racist police violence, as a step towards a future without oppression, inequality and racism!
